Devotional: Awe and Wonder
“Then the Lord said to Job, ‘Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?’ Then Job replied to the Lord, ‘I am nothing – how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand. I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.’” Job 40:1-5
It’s easy for our confidence to be rooted in our own self-knowledge. It’s easy to think we ultimately know best. When our perspective of God is smaller than the heights of our pride, it’ll always be difficult to put our trust in Him. But when our perspective of God is rooted in the fact that His way was, is and forever will be higher than our own, we begin to see things from His perspective. So, look to Him and be in awe. Let the fact that perfect love came down in the midst of your brokenness and canceled your debt even when you didn’t deserve it move in your heart. Because when your perspective of God is big, your faith will be too.
Today, ask God to reveal any tendencies you may have to have to critique His leading, rather than faithfully following. Ask him to break off any self-righteous knowledge, and to replace it with a heart that is softened to His direction for your life. Pray that your perspective of Him would continue to grow, and that your awe and wonder of Him in every area of your life would increase.
