Sabbath

Jun 28, 2026    Joel Hastings

Most of us picture the Christian life as a long to-do list — more to carry, more to manage, more to keep up with. But what if Jesus never intended it to look that way? In Luke 6, Jesus challenges the religious leaders' exhausting, rule-heavy approach to the Sabbath and reclaims rest as something God designed for our good — not another burden to bear.

Pastor Joel Hastings walks through two Sabbath encounters in Luke 6 where Jesus pushes back against performance-driven religion and offers something better: a life rooted in trust. Sabbath isn't just about stopping — it's a declaration that God governs the world better than we do, and an invitation to rest, delight, and worship in that truth.

Here's a couple key takeaways

- Sabbath is a gift, not a rule — when we skip rest, we miss one of God's greatest blessings in our lives.

- Resting is an act of trust — it's our way of saying God is on the throne, even when our to-do list isn't finished.

- Sabbath means more than doing nothing — build rhythms of rest, delight, and worship that you and your family can actually look forward to.
