New Day Orphanage
One in every five kids in Zambia is an orphan, mainly due to poverty and AIDS. In fact, 52 million orphans, or 30 percent of all the orphans worldwide, live in the 54 countries in Africa. The crisis is epidemic.
Wes and Laurie Wilcox and Blue and Darbi Tidwell began New Day Orphanage in 2010 to address the crisis. They founded New Day on three pillars:
1) Provide the children with a Christian worldview.
At New Day, children are learning to see the world through the eyes of Jesus. In partnership with this ministry, the church supports their mission to instill a Christ-centered worldview. While daily survival is a challenge, New Day helps children discover their God-given purpose, embrace His plan, and grow into who He created them to be.
2) Provide the children with a quality education.
From the classroom to household chores, a top-notch education is vital to the future of our children. In Zambia, where employment opportunities are limited, young adults must be well-equipped to compete for jobs. Breaking the cycle of poverty is challenging, but quality education is a powerful tool to shift mindsets and prepare children for a brighter, hope-filled future.
3) Retain the children’s Zambian culture.
Every child seeks to understand their place in the world. As Christians, we believe they are called to reflect the image of Jesus. At New Day, children are taught to follow Jesus while proudly embracing their Zambian identity. They honor their heritage as they grow in faith, purpose, and cultural pride, staying rooted in the context of their nation.
They believe that God calls His followers to care for those who cannot care for themselves. This is why their goal remains to raise Christian, educated Zambians who will impact their country and the world for Jesus Christ.
