TUNING OUT WHILE TUNING IN
Proverbs 1:1-7
No one could have prepared us or predicted that 2020 would be the year that it has been. We need discernment, understanding, insight, justice, equity, prudence— we need wisdom (Proverbs 1:2-4). Before the next crisis comes, before the virus is under control, and before the 2020 election —before 2021 comes knocking— we need to seek God for wisdom. Join us as we survey Proverbs and seek the wisdom of God.
Proverbs 1:1-7
What is the loudest noise in your life right now (political, health, financial, etc)? What the source of the loudest noise (friends, family, social media, etc)?
How do you practically control the volume of noise in your life?
What is something you could benefit from “tuning out” or at least “turning down” for the next 40 days? How would you better allocate the time, the habit, the energy, the resources, to TUNE IN to the Wisdom of God might?
What does wisdom mean to you? What is a simple memorable definition for you? What value can you place on wisdom (Prov 2:4-6; 16:16)?
Look at the 4 Jewels that wisdom brings in v. 2-4. These words or phrases help us understand the riches of wisdom. Try to recall the value each of these brings to our life.
How does Jesus fit into the conversation on wisdom? (1 Cor. 1:24,30; Col. 2:3)
Read Prov 1:7. What is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge? (fear of the Lord). How do you see the fear of the Lord opening up our life to greater divine wisdom?
How can one know they have a healthy “fear of the Lord”? Psalm 25:12, 14. How do you nurture your friendship with God and maintain a fear of the Lord?
